The West-Allen family is expanding once again on The CW. TVLine was first to report that Jordan Fisher has been cast as Bart Allen, and will be appearing later this season. If you’re a stickler for comic book canon, get ready for a little something different.
Fisher will actually portray the son of Barry and Iris, not the grandson. Before you get too upset, this is far from the first time that the series has deviated from the source material. That has actually been fairly normal for the Arrowverse, and has certainly worked out many times in the past. The better question is, why is the fastest teenager alive here?
Let’s take a look at the character description from the original report: “The future son of Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen, Bart is the fastest teenager on the planet. Due to Bart’s penchant for wildly impulsive behavior, a stunned Barry and Iris will have their hands full trying to teach their new son patience. But it’s a task they’ll have to accomplish, in order for their family to work together and stop Team Flash’s biggest threat yet!”
Dealing with a typical teenager is hard enough, but a super-villain too? That certainly takes things up a notch. Team Flash must really need the help, especially after everything that happened with Nora. How much will that factor into how Barry and Iris deal with their future son?
It looks like Fisher will appear in the 150th episode of The Flash, which we’re about 10 or so episodes away from right now. Fisher has been seen in Grease Live! and To All The Boys 2. He certainly seems eager for fans to meet Impulse.
HOLY – thank you all for the love today! They’ve got some pretty sweet plans for Bart/Impulse. Can’t wait to meet the cast and start this race! *slaps knee*
