When you're going up against Deathstroke, you need all of the help that you can get. Season 2 of Titans on DC Universe looks to be bringing out all of the names that fans really want to see. This time, they are taking to the sea. TV Insider is reporting that Drew Van Acker (Pretty Little Liars) has been cast to play Aqualad/Garth in the upcoming 2nd Season. Acker himself also took to Instagram to tease the news:
While posting a picture of yourself with a couple of hastags isn't exactly confirmation of what character he will be playing, this appears to be a done deal. Aqualad is the latest character to be added to the show's upcoming season, along with Slade Wilson's entire family, Connor Kent, Bruce Wayne and others. What makes this interesting is that we can't be exactly sure that Garth will be on the side of the Titans right away. Remember Aqualad has been a bit of a loose cannon in the comics, and when you're dealing with Atlantis nothing is a sure thing. You would think he would be on the side of the good guys, but this is something to keep an eye out for.
I know that there are some Jackson Hyde/Kaldur'ahm fans who are probably wondering why that character wasn't chosen. While I have no inside information, I would have to assume that it's because of the character prominent role in Young Justice: Outsiders (with Part 2 of the season releasing on DC Universe on July 2nd.) To avoid any confusion, I'm guessing this is why they went with Garth. It also keeps the comic book continuity in place a bit better, but this way we get the best of both worlds. Having not one, but two Aqualads featured at the same time on DC Universe just shows how far the Aquaman fandom has come over the years.
What do you think of the Aqualad casting?
