It has been a long, long road for the Red Sonja reboot film from Millennium. Not only is the project alive and well, they have found their star. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hannah John-Kamen will play the title role. We just saw her in SAS: Red Notice with Sam Heughan, but you’ll likely remember her as Ghost from Ant-Man and The Wasp. Quite frankly, she’s been a scene stealer in a lot of things that she has been a part of, and now, she has a chance to bring a warrior to life.
Directing will be Joey Soloway, who co-wrote the script with Tasha Huo. This story will be based on the Red Sonja that we know from Dynamite Entertainment, not her earlier Marvel Comics stories. Either way, I can’t wait to see what John-Kamen has in store for us. She certainly has the action experience, and is definitely someone who can bring a bit of a swagger to the role, in my opinion.
So, if you’re a Red Sonja fan, this is definitely good news. Quite frankly, after all of the delays, I thought this movie might never be made. This is a great sign, but far from a sure thing until cameras are rolling. So keep checking back for updates.
