(WARNING! CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR SEASON 5 EPISODE 6 OF SUPERGIRL!)
Did you recognize the name Andrea Rojas right away when you heard it on Supergirl? If you did, you knew she was more than just an overbearing boss who imposes her will on her reporters at Catco. If you thought there was something more about her, you were right. On this week's episode of Supergirl, titled "Confidence Women", we found out that Andrea Rojas is actually a character named Acrata.
We got quite a bit of backstory as it related to the past between Lena Luthor and Andrea Rojas. They were childhood friends, and Lena actually confided in Andrea that her dream was to find the Medallion of Acrata. Years later, she would tell Andrea that she had located it and it could be the key to stopping her brother. One accident later, and it's Andrea who claims the Medallion and the powers that came with it. So who is Acrata?
The character has the ability to bend shadow to her will. In the comics, she was also very skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Speaking of comics, her first appearance was in Superman Annual Vol. 2 #12, but with a different backstory. Not only was she a hero, she targeted organized crime in Mexico. Obviously the TV version is different, and not much of a hero at this point, but it's not unusual for the Arrowverse to take a few creative liberties with characters. To be honest, this is a lesser known character too, so that makes it a bit easier to shape the character for your story.
So if you were thinking Shadow Thief like I was at first, don't feel too bad. So head to your long box and see if you have that issue in your collection to find out more about Acrata. Question is, where does Lena go from here now that she has what she wants and how will Andrea choose to use her power? Leviathan might answer both of those for us soon.
